Story
So I managed it!It was a lot harder than I thought it would be, some hideous hills through the Chilterns but finished!
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page!
So, I was going to be running the London Marathon for Victim Support on my 30th birthday...However due to a damaging knee injury sustained in November and then again in January I've had to pull out. Instead, I shall putting my non impact sports rule to use and cycling from London to Oxford on 7th July.
People have been so generous with my fundraising so it's important to me I try and repay that faith and do something different. I may do another challenge later in the year but small steps first and try to cycle 60 miles first is a good way to go about it!
When thinking about running the marathon, I wanted to support a charity that would mean something to me, that I can associate with. I'm honoured to be running for Victim Support, who do brilliant work with those affected by crime, whether you're the victim, witness, family or friend. They are on the phone, visit your home, help confidentially and can be the link to help for so many people. They speak to 1.1million victims of crime a YEAR. It is a charity that I felt could help people affected by similar things experienced by some of my family recently.
As it happens, they were there and did help. I didn't know it at the time, but Victim Support gave help and advice to someone in my family when they needed it after traumatic events. That deserves some support back from me, in my books.
Luckily my family were able to, however there could be thousands of people out there who don't or are unable to get the help they need. We hope that obviously we will never have cause to need them, but Victim Support are there in case the unthinkable happens and you are affected by crime. Types of crime can vary hugely, and the help they provide reflects this: from advice on court proceedings or compensation, for someone to talk to in confidence, or help with bullying; to counselling following sexual abuse or attacks, help with things like medical examinations and costs of trauma therapy.
Please have a look at their website to read about some people they have helped through different crimes: http://www.victimsupport.org.uk/About-us/What-we-do/Hear-from-people-we-have-helped
I think they deserve our support, and hope you do too. I would be immensely grateful if you spare just some change to help me towards my target, it might just help me round the 26.2miles.
