I'm raising money for the South West Thames Kidney Fund, which helps fund research into renal (kidney) diseases to help improve their detection and treatment. This includes renal cancer, and renal failure due to diabetes.

You can see more information on the charity at http://www.kidneyfund.org.uk, and about the South West Thames Institute for Renal Research at www.swtirr.org.uk.

I ran the London Marathon on 25th April 2010, in just over 4 hours (see below). I have a target of £1500 to raise, which is well on its way - more donations are appreciated to help me reach this goal, having already achieved the goal of completing the marathon!

Judah.

************************************

7th November 2009 - Training has commenced well - have been out running more than usual and did a 5k row today on my home machine, due for a long run tomorrow (Casey our dog will be along for motivation!). I am planning to "row a marathon" at St Helier hospital in the near future for fundraising, hopefully I will make the local press with that one!

************************************

12th December 2009 - managing to combine runs with Casey in the morning and some daytime runs at the weekend quite well. Did an 8.5 mile run recently in just over an hour, which I was pleased with. Today Liz cycled around the trails of Limpsfield common while Casey and I ran alongside! Now I need to get rowing more to prepare for my 'rowathon' at St Helier Hospital in the New Year (date TBC)!

*************************************

23rd Janary 2010 - The recent snow, together with being ill over Christmas and then again this last week, has made training a little more challenging than expected! However, it turns out that snow can be a little like sand dunes to run on (quite fun), and the rowing machine has come in handy too. I now have a date booked for a 'rowathon' in St Helier hospital, to raise money from staff and visitors - 11th March.

*************************************

13th March 2010 - Well, I did my "rowathon" on Thursday, and have recovered! It went well, and fitted in with the nurses from the renal unit advertising World Kidney Day and checking people's blood pressure. Although I had hoped to row for over 3 hours, I could not manage that, and stopped at marathon distance (42km according to the rowing machine), which took 2hrs 20mins. I raised £110.41, and am grateful for all the donations made on the day! Now training for the marathon can resume!!

*************************************

24th March 2010 - I ran the Hastings Half Marathon on Sunday 21st, in a time of 1hr 44mins 33secs. Not bad for my first half marathon! It was tough for the last few miles though, I hadn't taken on enough fluid or food, so was running on empty... a valuable lesson for April 25th!

*************************************

6th April 2010 - T minus 18 days today!! Things have been looking a bit bleak for the last week, as I developed a knee grumble (tendonitis methinks), which made running rather painful. I rested for a week and have been on the anti-inflammatories, pleased to say that I was able to go out for a gentle run yesterday and today without trouble. Suffice it to say, I will be running slower than intended on the 25th - 9 or 10 minute miling rather than the anticipated 8 minute pace.

*************************************

26th April 2010 - well, I did it! 4 hours 5 minutes (crossed the start line at 9:49am, finish line at 4hrs 9mins elapsed), wih fairly consistent pace for the whole race. Didn't stop to walk at all, although my knees were giving me grief at times towards the end! I only had one blister thanks to twinskin socks, and made the wise move of taping over my nipples (I have had nipple rub before, it is not pleasant!!). Quads and calves are pretty sore now, but I have a couple fo days off work to recover.

Thank you to everybody who has (and those yet to) sponsor me, all the support and donations have been greatly appreciated.

Here's to 2011!
