Please support us to raise funds for Nightingale

 We did it!!

Elena and I completed the 194.71 miles ride from Clapham Common in South London to The Eifel Tower in 26 hours of cycling. That may not seem fast but the hills were very challenging and on occasions seemingly never ending.

Was it tough going? Yes – very tough - hard cycling for long and tedious hours with few short breaks. Getting on the bikes at 0300 hrs in Dieppe was an experience! Despite that we enjoyed the challenge and the special moments. Turning the last corner in Paris and cycling directly towards the Eifel Tower was a moment of accomplishment that neither of us will ever forget. Would we do it again? Not for a week or two!

Two things sustained us in carrying out the challenge. The first was the people who Nightingale looks after.  Nightingale is an exceptional place – a home, hospital and nursing home for the elderly – specialising in the care of people with Alzheimer’s disease. Julian first came into contact with Nightingale when they cared for his elderly mother during the last months of her life. Such places are becoming more and more important – the number of sufferers is growing and they are among the most vulnerable people, in need of constant care.

The second thing that sustained us was you – our supporters. Not getting to Paris was not an option!

Once again, thank you so much for your support and encouragement. If you haven’t yet donated in support of the elderly residents of Nightingale, please do so now – and many many thanks.

Best wishes

Elena and Julian
