Julie’s Charity Challenge Everest

Dear One and All,

As some of you may know I am climbingMount Everest, the world’s highest mountain 29,035 feet (8,848m) in the Nepalese Himalayas from 3-19 October 2008 as a Charity Challenge, in aid of the wonderful Rowans Hospice in Hampshire.

The Rowans Hospice

This is a truly wonderful charity funded organisation that cares for terminally ill patients giving help, advice, health care and much needed support to patients and their families. Having recently lost a close relative, who was cared for at the Rowans Hospice I am aiming to raise as much money as possible – so that they can continue to provide this important service. I am self funding so that all the money I raise goes to the charity.

The Challenge:

·          Overnight inKathmandu.

·          Fly to Lukla to begin the trek to Everest base camp (5,545m/18,192ft).

·          Trek 12-13 kms to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital (3,440m/11,306ft)

·          Acclimatisation day trekking locally

·          Trek 12kms to Dingboche (4,358m)

·          Acclimatisation day trekking locally

·          Trek 14 kms to Gorakshep (5,288m) (base camp in the early 1950’s Edmund Hilary expedition) & Everest Base Camp (5, 357m), and if we have any energy reserves trek on up to Kalapathar (5,647m)

·          Trek 14 kms ascent to Kalapathar and back down to Pherice

·          Trek 15 kms along the Imjer-Tse gorge to Phungitenga

·          Trek 11 kms with a steep climb away from the river to Chumoa
