My story

Hello

Firstly, a big thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

This year in the run up to the event I thought I would try to raise some extra cash and bring attention to SH!

Stuart Hocknell was a bright young designer who loved life and had everything to live for.

Stuart worked as part of my Design team at Brahm. Design teams are generally very close and friendships

within team environments when working in a studio of this kind tend to be close.

Stuart was a kind and funny person. He had talent good friends and a lovely family. Sadly he dies at the age of 27.

At the time is was very shocking. One day he was in amongst the team working on a busy pitch presentation

the next day he didn’t come to work and by the next day he had died. Stuart contracted Meningitis and it took

a hold very quickly.

Standing in front of a large team of people announcing the news was heartbreaking.

We launched the SH! Awards in the year he died and have helped a lot of talented people to start out over the years. Now in its 6th year,

Stuart would have been so proud.

This is a fantastic awards scheme in which young designers leaving university can come and be interviewed by top

people from within theYorkshiredesign community. Every year we are joined by a team of judges from some of our main competitors

who help us to interview over 50 students and choose a winner. The top 10 students are featured in an exhibition in our gallery

and we hold a presentation and party night which is a great opportunity for the students to meet people from within the design industry.

We also raise money every year for Meningitis Research Foundation in honour of Stuart.

It is just sad to think that the last 6 years have passed so quickly and that Stuart has not been able to enjoy them. If this is just

one example of what Meningitis can do it seems to me to be worth raising money for.

Oh and did I mention I am very scared of heights! Look forward to showing you the pictures of the jump!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Meningitis Research Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for your support.

Jules
