Hi, I'm at it again - fundraising for Plan! This time however I decided to embark on a more challenging task....The Great Wall of China. As many of you know, I've been assisting in raising funds for Plan since 2001. I had the priveledge of spending three months in Plan's Country Office in Honduras in 2006 and I saw first hand the positive impact your donations have made. Plan do amazing work and I would like to continue to support them...that is of course, with a little help from my friends.
I am now raising funds to support the project "Children at the center of Disaster Risk Reduction" which aims to reduce immediate and long-term impact of disasters on communities, particularly children and young people, and to stregthten community resilience to disasters through the development of robust and replicable practices for community based and child-centrered disaster risk reduction management. The appeal of this type of project is that child groups are supported and empowered with the decision-making role to evaluate the risks in their own communities and take action to reduce them. Children have the capability of communicating risk inside and outside of their communities, carry out actions to correct them and thus become agents of change. Investing in them is not only an investment for the future, but also an investment for the present.
The countries that are in the DRR programme are Indonesia, Ecuador, Philippines, Cambodia, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh and El Salvador with future plans to involve more countries, including China.
