Having visited Shiva projects in Nepal this past August, I can wholeheartedly vouch for their good work. As a mother myself, I can't imagine my kids not having access to education, not knowing the pleasure a book can bring - and not being able to dream or aspire to something greater in life.  But for many children, this is commonplace.  Parents can barely afford food and clothing, much less tuition fees and uniforms.  Education is a luxury.

I sponsor a school (The Karen Billing School) through Shiva Charity in Darjeeling, India.  It is just one of the Shiva schools helping children break out of poverty through education. Donations received will literally change lives - of the children involved, their siblings & families, and the community at large. Like a ripple effect, it touches those near and far.

I am presently contacting people who have inspired me (both as a child and adult) to help participate in the fundraising for childrens education. I would like it to be a global effort where people from all walks of life - be it academic circles, dramatics/theatre, art, politics, the media, business... all come together to help inspire the others at this school and other Shiva schools and change lives.  I've been very fortunate in that many celebrities have donated items to be auction for this charity which has helped a great deal.
