The East African Safari adventure is over AND WE FINISHED... Seeded 27 we finished in 27th place out of 46 starters. At least a major advance on the 39th place in 2007!! It was tough, hot, very dusty and then muddy, the mosquitos had a field day but the team won through. We had our problems - 9 punctures, 6 broken/smashed wheels, a brick through the windscreen from some kids, front suspension tore out the bodywork (amazing what you can do with a ratchet strap and still go quickly for 30 klms) rear suspension bracket broke, half shafts came away from the diff..... but we always managed to get to the next service point for 'the lads' to fix it.
On one stage a half shaft went 2.5 klm in. Satellite phone used to contact the service Landcruiser and Tony, one of our mechanics ran in with the spare in the 90 degree heat and we were away within 30 minutes! Have attached some of the photos but a video and further photos out soon.
MANY THANKS TO ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE DONATED ALLREADY. THE KARIBUNI TRUST ARE DOING A FANTASTIC JOB IN THE SLUMS OF NAIROBI - it is very difficult to describe the conditions, but having been there I can assure it is much worse than you can imagine!
Have a great Christmas and lets hope for a Peaceful New Year !
