The construction of the Beri Hostel is now in progress. It is expected to be finished within a month’s time As you can see from these new photographs that the hostel is coming along, however we do still need more funding.

So far we have managed to raise £4300.00 including matching funds from Tibet Foundation. We still need to raise £7000.00

Tibetan Monastic Community

This is about a Tibetan monastic community in Mundgod in south India. In 1980s and 1990s in search of genuine Buddhist education a group of monks came from a remote place called Beri in East Tibet to this community in south India.

Beri in east Tibet is one of the areas where Tibetan protests were brutally suppressed in March 2008. Ever since, due to intensified Chinese control a very few people, if at all could come out of Tibet. Those who are already in the community in south India, unfortunately, may be the last coming from this area to India.

The house in which some 20 Beri monks live was built in late 1960s. The house is now in a very poor condition – cracks on the floors and walls with insects and small mammals passing through freely, and holes in the roofs from where water comes down in the rainy seasons. All the monks sleep on simple mattresses without even beds. They are very simple monks, fully dedicated to their studies. Such dedicated students are the future hope for keeping Tibetan Buddhist culture alive. None of them seem to complain but the condition of the house is so bad that even if it does not collapse immediately, it is a health hazard and dangerous.

Therefore, Tibet Foundation is trying to raise money to rebuild their house. The estimated cost is in Indian Rupees 9, 00,000; equivalent to approximately £11,300. Tibet Foundation will match all funds raised through this publicity.

Going through a period of such a great financial difficulties we all are now, it is not the best time to appeal for money, but we know many of you will consider this appeal and do what you can.
