My story

On 16th September 10 Clipper boats leave Hull to circumnavigate the world over a ten month period. I will be joining Cape Breton Island Clipper in Australia on 27th December as a member of the 17-strong crew, and over the next six and a half months I will be visiting Singapore, Qingdao, California, sailing through the Panama canal, visiting Jamaica, New York, Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Cork, and then sail back into Hull in the middle of July 2010.

Since embarking on the Clipper training for this trip, I  have a greater understanding of what sort of challenges I will encounter – heat and humidity as we approach South East Asia, freezing conditions as we leave Qingdao in February to undertake  a non-stop 6 week passage across the Pacific.  Heavy weather conditions are to be expected during the six months, but then there is the compensation of shorts and tee-shirt sailing in the Caribbean.   Imagine the excitement of leaving Nova Scotia on the home leg to cross the Atlantic to Cork. It is going to be an exciting and testing journey, particularly for someone who only started sailing 3 years ago!

I work as a volunteer for The Brigitte Trust, a charity that supports people with life-threatening illnesses.   My desire to raise funds for them through my trip is driven by my understanding of what a fantastic job the organisation does in supporting those who are in need of help.  As a charity we rely on the generosity of friends and the wider public.  Please donate today, and keep checking my page and the Brigitte Trust website to see how close I am to achieving my target of £22,000.  That figure represents £1 for every mile that I will be sailing in my Clipper challenge.

Thank you for your support.
