Hi everyone,
Having been inspired by the efforts of those that have recently completed the London Marathon, I’ve decided to take the plunge and run the Berlin Marathon at the end of September this year. I’m still not sure that I know exactly what I’m getting myself into (26.2 miles sounds like quite a big effort!) but am definitely up for the challenge...
Although I’ve received a ballot place, I’m still going to run it for charity - the one I’ve chosen is Fauna & Flora International. They’re an organisation whose main aims are to maintain biodiversity on earth through the conservation of some of the most endangered species and ecosystems - see the following link for further details: www.fauna-flora.org
I’m not sure if this choice will come as a surprise to anyone, given that most of my focus generally tends to be towards human psychology/behaviour but I’ve decided to support this charity in recognition that humans aren’t the only species to inhabit this planet, and that there’s much to be done by way of conservation of many species worldwide. Sir David Attenborough as the Vice President of FFI sums up the impact of humans on earth and the need to protect the natural world in the following video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLqNHerkZsM (fast forward to the 3 minute mark to cut to the chase!).
I’m hoping to raise between £1000-£1500 for this cause, which would be the equivalent of around 40-60 people sponsoring me at a pound a mile (£26.20). I know that those students among you might not have as much spare cash kicking about so just give whatever you can – any amounts received will be much appreciated.
Thanks guys, and hopefully see some of you in Berlin on 30th September – everyone’s more than welcome (the more support the better!) so if you’re thinking of coming out that weekend, let me know and arrangements can be made accordingly!
Katharine.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Fauna & Flora International will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
