Peter, 60, will be trekking over 70 miles from Islington to Dymchurch in Kent in order to raise funds and awareness of Old Street-based Kings Corner Project and the work it does with young people in the borough.
Peter’s epic adventure starts on Wednesday 25 August outside Kings Corner Project’s office on 104 Old Street, Islington and finishes on Saturday 28 August in Peter’s birthplace of Dymchurch on the Kent coastline. Peter will be sleeping rough during the charity walk.
A rough sleeper around Islington for the past six years, Peter has helped Kings Corner Project with a recent homelessness film project it arranged for local young people, and decided on this walk in order to raise money for the charity.
Peter Pickles says: “I am very proud to be doing this walk for such a good cause as Kings Corner Project. My walk is aiming to raise as much money as possible for the charity and promote the wonderful work it does in the borough.
“The workers and volunteers at Kings Corner have really looked after me. They treat me as a normal person – and this is my thank you to them. My walk shows homeless people and rough sleepers do actually care about others and want to play a full part in contributing positively to our local community.”
Sarah Bates, Chair of Kings Corner Project says: “We are delighted that Peter has offered to undertake such an incredible feat as this to help publicise the work we do in the local area.
“Kings Corner Project works tirelessly in the Islington aiming to deliver the best quality services and support for local young people. The money that Peter will raise will mean we can continue improving the opportunities we offer to residents.
We will be having a big send off for Peter at our Old Street office on Wednesday 25 August, and we invite any supporters to come along as well to cheer him along.”
