So why The Great Midlands Run and why St Giles Hospice?

I have grown up and now live in Whittington (where St Giles is based) and have seen the hospice grow and the remarkable work and support given to those with cancer and other serious illnesses As a child I often went with my mum as a volunteer and spent my time stroking the hospice cat and entertaining day patients!

My Inspiration

For those that know me well, you'd agree I am the most accident prone person and lucky to still be alive. Everything I’ve pulled, strained, twisted, fractured, bashed and bumped Nick Baker (the most fabulous sports therapist and trainer) and Dominic Senior of Holly Cottage Chiropractic Clinic (one amazing chiropractor), have picked up the pieces, fixed, and got me back into working order! Without them, this challenge would still be a dream.

During this time, I have been lucky enough to get to know the Baker family in Sutton Coldfield and a truly remarkable and inspirational member, Anne. (Nicks Mum)

Without her continued support and encouragement, supply of tea and cake - her usual reply was “sod it” when mentioning I was on a diet then delving into the largest piece-  I would have given up on this “fitness” malarkey long ago.   -  I have the “A-Team” behind me or should that be “B-Team”!

Unfortunately on 25th February 2007, Anne passed away, and so I am doing this for and because of her and all those that fight so courageously until the end of any illness.   She and I had always joked about me doing this, The Great Midlands Run on 3rd June. Its no Joking matter now – ITS SERIOUS TRAINING TIME!

Plus I’m keeping family tradition up…my dad and godmother did it for 9 years (retired injured)..if only we’d known Nick and Dominic then!!

Dig Deep, give generously and make it worth every step of the 8.5 mile route! If it helps remember I'm starting with 0 mile ability!

Many thanks

Keri x

PS numerous training sessions with Nick, 2 visits to see Dominic and the purchase of a blister kit later, I find myself vowing to do something about my fitness levels and I now understand why a certain hill on route is known as Cardiac Hill - GOOD GRIEF!
