We are here for the people of East London to live healthier, longer lives

Story

Hi,

My name is Kerri Stroud, I am the mother of a special little boy called Teddie. Teddie has been in and out of hospitals since sept 08. Teddie had a blood shot eye so we took him to our local hospital Southend. We see a consultant there who said he had conjuctivitis, after a week or so the eye had not got any better so we asked to be referred to someone else. We went to another hospital locally called Orsett, and on that day 18th Oct 08 at approx 10am we didnt realise how much our lives was going to change. We was sent to GOSH that same day and at approx 5pm Teddie was in theatre having tests and biopsy's. The results came back that Teddie had cancer cells in his eye, we was referred to The Royal London for more test. The consult at the time had such a poor view of Teddie's eye because it had hemorraged that we was told to come back in a few weeks. After the 2nd EUA the consultant said that Teddie's lens in his eye had shattered and that he could not see 'the signs' of cancer as the eye was still to bloody. He was then referred to Moorfields where he had several proceedures to remove the shattered lens and treat the Glaucoma he then developed. A year passed, he was still being treated for Glaucoma when we noticed a shiney like bubble in his eye. We was once again referred back to the cancer unit at the Royal London. He see a different consultant who certainly didnt like the look of Teddie's eye, after a few more EUA's you could see the tumour growing aggressively in his eye. There was only one thing left to do, the eye had to go. After tests on the eye the diagnosis was MEDULLEOPITHELIOMA and extremely rare eye cancer. When we asked our consultant treating Teddie at GOSH she said she has seen approx 5 cases in 25yrs only one of which was malignant like Teddie's was. Teddie is now on chemotherapy and doing well. We are raising money for the Buxton Ward at the royal london where Teddie is still going for tests. The staff and consultants are fantastic and they are in need of new cancer equipment and toys for the ward. A sponsored skydive is taking place at headcorn in maidstone, with a lovely 17yr old lad called Tom who is jumping to raise money for Teddie's ward.
