On the 5th April 2010 I will be heading off for 12 days to take part in a charity trek in the Indian Himalayas. I am doing this in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance who provide emergency support to the whole of Yorkshire including my home town Malton. There are lots of rural and remote areas in Yorkshire and towns like Malton which have no quick, easy access to hospitals and ambulance services for people in need of life saving treatment. The fast medical response that the air ambulance provides is vital to someone who has received major trauma and can have a major impact on someones chance of survival and subsequent quality of life. They therefore need as much support as possible to keep them in the air and save as many lives as possible.
The challenge begins and ends in Dharamsala, where the Dalai Lama and the centre of the Tibetan Community are situated, at the heart of the world’s highest mountain range. After acclimatising to the altitude we will be trekking for around 8 hours a day through the foothills of the Himalayas and spending the evenings in tent camps along the way. This is a BIG challenge for me but im putting my fears aside to raise as much money as possible for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and hope that u will kindly support me in doing so.
