Get Involved
Dyslexia Action has just launched a Fundraising campaign to encourage people to ‘Get Involved’, to help raise much needed funds for the many thousands of dyslexic people across the UK.
We are therefore asking you to ‘Get Involved’ by please sponsoring us!
Why should I ‘Get Involved’ and support Dyslexia Action?
Dyslexia is a hidden disability and far more complex than just a difficulty with reading. Approximately 10% of the population is dyslexic to varying degrees of severity, which is as many as 2 – 3 children in every classroom. It is also well documented that currently approximately 20% of children have below expected levels in literacy. Without identification and intervention many of these children are at risk of school failure.
The impact of this specific learning difficulty can result in a life time of underachievement, which is directly linked to reduced employment and life opportunities. This comes at not only a huge cost to the individual but also to the future growth of our economy.
Dyslexia can affect anyone of any age, race, religion or socioeconomic background. But those from more economically deprived backgrounds are more vulnerable and less likely to be able to access the help and support they need.
Dyslexia is a very emotive cause, particularly for the adults and children, and their parents, who experience the frustrations and huge difficulties it can cause.
In the words of one parent in response to the help that her son had received from Dyslexia Action: “Thank you for giving me back my bright and confident little boy.”
There are thousands more children who urgently need specialist help and support and by ‘getting involved’ and supporting Dyslexia Action, it is possible to make a difference to their lives.
