Here are the facts
> A child goes blind every minute.
> Currently, 1.4 million children are blind and the number is growing.
> Half of this blindness is preventable or treatable.
> The commonest cause of treatable childhood blindness is cataract.
Hamish (The handsome wee fella in the picture) is our gorgeous and very sweet little boy, who was diagnosed with a cataract last year and after months of occlusion (patching) therapy underwent surgery to have the cataract removed and an Intraocular Lens put in in its place.
Everything has gone really well and we have only a few years of patching to go!!!
To raise awareness of childhood cataracts and blindness I have decided to set myself a challenge of running 1363.44miles in a year (The same distance as 52 Marathons) in 52 weeks
We just wanted to say a really big thank you to everyone that has supported us through the whole process from the diagnosis of the cataract, the occlusion therapy, the eye tests, the surgery and for being there to answer any questions we had.
Vision4Children is working solely towards reducing Global Childhood Blindness, offering help and support to all.
Their Global research programmes will improve treatment and management of blinding childhood diseases and long-term sustainable teaching programmes will tackle treatable childhood blinding conditions where the need is the greatest
We believe That no child should needlessly be blind and all children have a right to sight through work that helps them achieve the best vision possible and that all children with visual impairment have the right to education, support and encouragement to achieve their goals.
There is a need for change. We believe that change is possible. We need your help.
