My story

Hi, this is me with my family - my wife Joe and our children Emily and Thomas. Our family is very important to us and, over the years, in dealing with the challenges presented by Tom's autism there is no doubt that we have become closer and more appreciative of what we have. Of course, we have many more family members that are also important to us and who have been so supportive. In fact when talking about our family, we also like to include all of the volunteers that have worked with Tom over the years and helped him make the progress that he has.
Unfortunately for a lot of children around the world the story is not such a pleasant one and for most of the children living rough on city streets the prospect of a happy family life is simply not possible. For them, the brutal reality is that simply surviving from one day to the next is their only objective. Many have no families left to turn to whilst others are too frightened of the consequences of returning home. It is hard to imagine a more desperate situation in any child’s life.

It is, however, possible to make a difference and RETRAK is a charity that makes a huge difference to the lives of all the children it helps. Last year, when visiting her brother in Addis Ababa, Joe was fortunate enough to visit one of the RETRAK projects and witnessed first hand the caring, passion and commitment of the RETRAK team. It is almost impossible to express the extreme poverty that exists in these places and the resources that the RETRAK teams have to work with are pitiful, but the work that they do and the results they achieve are truly inspiring.

So, after having received so much help and support from others for our work with Thomas over the years, I thought it was about time I did a bit of giving and resolved to run 20 K around Brussels on May 20th. Of course, running 20 K in itself will do nothing more than wear me out (a bit more) but this is where you come in !

Please help me to support RETRAK and allow them to continue making a difference to more children’s lives. This is a truly worthy cause and I am hoping that you will support me by "digging deep" and sponsoring me online.
Thanks
Kevin
