Hey, thanks so much for visiting our page.
Basically we are a team of 12 volunteers that are sooo passionate about our chosen charity SHELTERBOX that we have gone completely mad and will climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free standing mountain in the world, in the hope that we can raise as much money for them as possible. www.shelterbox.org
Shelterbox is an international disaster relief charity, that originated in Helston, Cornwall as part of the Rotary club's millenuim project. Hence 2010 is Shelterboxes 10th year anniversary.
WHAT IS A SHELTERBOX
It is a big green box that contains a 10 man tent, cooking equipment, blankets, ground mats, childrens packs, tool kits, water purification tablets, water containers and mosquito nets. Basically enough for a family of 10 to survive if their home was destroyed as a result of a natural or manmade disaster. Shelterbox have operated in over 90 countries worldwide and delivered tens of thousands of boxes to homeless families after natural disasters in Haiti, New Orleans, the Indonesian tsunami and China, to name but a few. Please have a look at our video on this page, to get a better idea of what goes in the box, and how it all started.
The cost of a Shelterbox, to include a response team volunteer (SRT) to deliver the aid, is £490
SO WHO'S ON THE TEAM
Basically the team is made up of friends and volunteers for Shelterbox, from the UK and USA
Sharon O'Keefe and Chris Donald. Both are SRTS (Shelterbox Response Team members) and live in Cornwall. Sharon has delivered aid to Sumatra and Chris to Africa and Haiti in the past with Shelterbox.
Mark Eccles and his daughter Emily. Mark is an SRT who has been to Bangladesh and Haiti, delivering aid amongst other places. Emily is a keen supporter and a trainee lawyer.
Then we have Richard McSweeney. He is a keen supporter of Shelterbox and lives in Cornwall.
From across the Atlantic, we have Mark Dyer, who is also an SRT based in America. He has delivered aid to Africa and asssisted in Miami with the Haiti logistics. He will bring with him his son, Eric, a keen scout, Shelterbox fan and climber.
From St Agnes Cornwall, we have Steve Blunsdon. Steve works in Senegal Africa and manages a mining company. He lives in Cornwall so is an avid Shelterbox supporter and follower.
Sean Jarvis is also a keen Shelterbox supporter living in Cornwall and working for St Austell Brewery.
Then we have Lizzy Treglowen, a keen SRT who spends most of her time helping out at the Helston HQ. Lizzy has delivered aid to China, Africa and Egypt amongs many other countries in the past.
Phil Duloy is an SRT and is currently in Haiti for over 2 months assisting with the delivering of vital aid. Phil lives in Falmouth Cornwall.
Finally Dave Achtemichuk is the latest member to sign up. Dave is an SRT from Canada and was deployed earlier this year to respond to the floods in Peru.
The team are highly committed to the challenge and cant wait to start fundraising!!!
WHAT WE WILL DO
On 22nd July 2010 the team will fly to Tanzania to climb the challenging 7 day Kilimanjaro Machame Route with reputable local company
Prior to the climb, the team will visit a local deprived school and deliver some classroom equipment including pens, papers and textbooks for the children. They may even bring a football or two, to celebrate England just winning the world cup!!!!!!
WE WOULD ALL BE EXTREMELY GRATEFUL FOR ANY DONATIONS YOU COULD MAKE TO THIS EXCELLENT AND REALLY WORTHWHILE CAUSE. PLEASE HELP US ACHIEVE OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL IN EXCESS OF £10,000 TO CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF SHELTERBOX!!
