My story

Hi, and thanks for visiting our page!

Presumably you have found your way here by virtue of your acquaintance with Laura or Adrian, and probably therefore know all about the challenge we are undertaking next February. Whether or not you do, here's a little bit more about what we are doing, and the charity we are supporting.

The challenge

The Kinabalu Challenge is a ten day endurance event in the jungles of Borneo. Twelve teams of four compete to be crowned fastest team to complete a series of challenges including running, mountain biking, kayaking and rafting, culminating in an ascent of Mt Kinabalu -- the highest mountain in South East Asia.

The Kinabalu Challenge is not easy, and is compounded by the 35 degree temperatures and 95% humidity we will be experiencing. Add to this, the self-built shelters, evil mosquitoes, and the fact that Laura will have to cook her own meals, and you hopefully appreciate the effort we are going to!

The participants

We are entering as "Team Deloitte", but with a twist... There are three Deloitte teams, and we are on competing teams! Our goal overall is to see one of the Deloitte teams win against further competition from the likes of HSBC and Barclays Capital. Deloitte were winners in 2005, so have a title to regain!

Laura is joined by Ian Sharman, Andrew Hinder and Josh Caswell; Adrian by Ian Hughes, Eddie Johnson and Sameer Mahomed.

The Charity

As well as our hope to regain the crown for Deloitte, we will also be supporting Rotary. Rotary International is divided into many local clubs, and the Rotary Club of Sale is the club nearest to Adrian's home town.

Each club supports both local, and national and international causes. Locally, the club allows those less privileged to take advantage of opportunities they would otherwise not have had. Nationally and Internationally the club supports humanitarian, intercultural and educational programs in order to advance its ultimate goals of promoting understanding and world peace.

For more information about Rotary, please take a look at the global website at www.rotary.org

How you can help

If you sponsor us, Rotary will receive much more that just the amount you give. Firstly, as a registered charity, they are able to reclaim the income tax you pay, under the "Gift Aid" scheme. Please remember to tick the box to confirm that you are a UK taxpayer and therefore eligible.

Secondly, Deloitte will match the sponsorship we raise with their own equal contribution, of up to £500 each.

Please give generously, and check back for an update after the event!

Many thanks,
Adrian and Laura

JANUARY UPDATE: Adrian takes part in Tough Guy Challenge 2007 as training for Borneo, finishing in a time of 2 hours 13 minutes. Take a look at http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=toughguy2007 for more information about the event.

MARCH UPDATE: Adrian and Laura return from Borneo. The winners of the event we "Team Foreplay", closely followed by "All the Gear and No Idea" and "110% Deet" (Deloitte 3rd team). Laura's and Adrian's teams won the two "bike-run" events, but lost places owing to depleted (injured) team mates. Thanks to all who supported us.
