Thank you for visiting our 'Kinloss Help for Heroes Cycle Ride' fundraising page - hopefully you weren't bullied too much into visiting!

Between 22nd and 28th August 2009, 7 cyclists, and a support team of 3, will set off from the Ministry of Defence in central London on a 680 mile journey back to RAF Kinloss. The plan is to break the journey down into around 100 mile a day sections with a 'relatively' short day on 28th from Grantown on Spey, to make it back to Kinloss in time to rattle the bucket before everyone leaves work for the bank holiday weekend!

The team will be taking the more challenging West of the UK route (have you seen the hills?) in order to visit BAeS Chadderton, which provides support to the Nimrod MR2, and to stay at Danny's mum's B&B near Shap (www.ovalhouse.demon.co.uk)! Apart from Mrs Streames' B&B, accommodation will be a combination of Service accomodation, Scout Huts and Youth Hostels; you can find further details about our route at our team website: www.kinlossh4h.org

So why have the Team chosen undertake this challenge in support of Help for Heroes? We are all based at RAF Kinloss, home of the Nimrod MR2, and have all been involved in or supported operations in the Middle East over the last 7 years or so. We have all been fortunate enough to come home safely but we are only too aware that not everyone has been so fortunate which is why we are proud to do our bit to raise money for the fantastic charity that is Help for Heroes. A business-like approach to fund-raising has created an organisation that has the reputation and credibility to raise millions for the good of wounded servicemen and women; notably £8m has been raised to provide a new swimming pool and gym complex at the Defence Military Rehabilitation Centre Headley Court. It is important to note that Help for Heroes is not diverting charitable donations away from other valuable Service charities; £500k has been donated to SSAFA Forces ‘Homes from Home’ appeal to provide relative’s houses at Headley Court and Selly Oak and £3.5m has been given to a charity called 'Combat Stress' which helps veterans with mental wounds.

These are but 3 examples of the excellent work Help for Heroes is doing to help our wounded Servicemen and women. Please help us to help them keep up the good work by sponsoring us through Justgiving which is a quick, easy and totally secure means of donating to good causes. And, to make your money go even further if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving will make sure that 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement are added to your donation - just remember to fill in your details!

So, thank you once again for visiting our fundraising site; please sponsor us generously and tell everyone you know about our challenge!

The Team x
