For those who don't really know me I am Kirilynn Gardner, 27 years old married mother of two. I work at a fantastic place called Mary Hare a secondary school for profoundly and severely deaf young people aged from 11 - 19 years old. I have worked there for nearly eight years and it is a huge part of my life.

I set up a youth club in my early years and it has gone from strength to strength, it is now a place for the young people to relax and be something they are proud of. I run it like a business I am the head chef and organiser I have large hard working team consisting of the young people at the school. They all apply for a job, go for an interview, attend training and develop a working life with full benefits and wages. This provides a great experience of life skills valuable to all the young people at the school. My team is made up of two sixth form reps,  three managers, three assistant managers, nine waiters/waitresses and six security staff all with individuals roles running the youth club like an American Diner with a full menu. The youth club is run making a small profit which goes back to the young people and into the youth club in forms of  their wages and prizes for events that we have to offer. Therefore have very little left over for new equipment and replacement items.

So we are teaming up with two sixth formers to take part in a 22 mile walk following the Lambourn Valley Way, from Uffington White Horse right through the small villages of Lambourn, East Garston, Great Shefford, Bagnor, past Donnington castle back up to Mary Hare over two days. I am going in fancy dress too (any ideas??) and if that's not enough I am taking 16 young people from Mary Hare with me on our mini adventure!

This school is a huge part of my life and means so much to me and the young people I look after - to watch them grow as individuals and make something of their lives is an extraordinarily privileged thing to be a part of. If I can just help them achieve this in the way of my work in the youth club to give them the confidence to believe in themselves to prepare for the hearing world around them and grow as the talented individuals that they are then sponsoring me will help keep their youth club and dreams going! - many thanks for your time Kirilynnx

WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!

We all completed the walk even Hector the dog!!  We decided to wear Coles Diner t-shirts and grass skirts with leis too! We all looked a sight walking over the fields and through the quaint villages - but it was worth it - we had a fantastic time and one all of us will remember. A BIG BIG thank you to Great Shefford Village Hall where we stayed for the night inside in tents! It was great fun!

So well done to everybody and thank you for all the donations and kind wishes!!

If you haven't sponsored us then please do so below - it all helps our beloved youth club COLES DINER!!
