What I am doing...

Spending seven days in September climbing up Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro stands at a staggering 5,896 metres - it is the tallest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world and it's also a volcano! I'll be trekking and climbing for seven days across rough terrain and having to cope with the effects of extreme altitude in order to reach the summit.

Why I am doing it...

As a fit and healthy 29 year old, it is harrowing for me to think that every day people younger than me are coming back from Afganistan and Iraq with horrific wounds, without limbs, without their eyesight or worse. These are ordinary people who have done their duty in the service of our country, and some of them are living with the consequences of that service for the rest of their lives.

We do many things well in the UK, but making sure our service men and women are properly cared for after their initial medical care in the field is not always one of them.

Having been through the trauma of war and serious life changing injuries sustained serving their country there is often a significant gap in the rehabilitation, long term care and other support these service men and women need.

Help for Heroes gives them the support they deserve.
