My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Devizes to Westminster race is the longest kayaking marathon in the world. It is held every year over the Easter weekend since 1948, which makes this year a 60 anniversary event!
The total distance is 125 miles (205 k) which we will try to complete within 24h of paddling (hopefully) with help of our support team which will feed us, give
us drinks and moral support…

It might not have been my brightest idea to do this race since I am almost a  total beginner in kayaking universe; however I am doing my best to prepare for this challenge.
That includes:
*paddling (so far the longest distance was 42k, after which I lost feeling in my index finger for 2 weeks (late Dec and almost 6 h on the river) and thought I would die at the end - surely I can make 5 times this distance in few months I hope..)
*weight training at the gym
*running, although I have to admit not my favourite
*yoga to relax and forget that I am doing such a crazy race;-)

I might have waited till 2011, when the race will be held on 24 April thanks to late Easter, which I guess would be much nicer temperature-wise.
However – there is only one 60th anniversary, and I am going for it!

Of course there will be sacrifices - I had an accident in the lock when I seriously hurt my leg while getting out of the kayak - apparently I can make even a flat water racing an extreme sport;-) However, even though it still hurts a bit after a month, I was back in the kayak in no time! Couple of blisters and various muscles aches are not even worth mentioning at this point…

Somewhere in the middle of it all I fell in love in kayaking. These of you who had a pleasure to talk to me recently know, that I talk about it all the time to the point off annoyance and during Xmas holiday which caused over 2 weeks break from paddling, I started to have dreams of being back in kayak and now I cannot imagine a week without dipping a paddle few times in (even freezing cold) water…

Please sponsor me today and help me to help others using the DW race as a great excuse to help blind people in UK
