Story

Just a quick update, completed the run with a time of 1hr50mins17secs! 5mins17secs of what I wouldve loved to have got but timed the run to perfection and really had no juice left so can't complain. The day was absolutely awesome and my son and I did the best we could for our lovely sponsor's to help those less fortunate than ourselves, all of you guys made this what it was, a positively uplifting experience in our son's name.
Hi Peeps
Thank you first of all for taking the time out in such busy lives to visit this justgiving page. Yes there are many people out there asking for many donations for a whole host of various charities however I would ask you to take a couple of minutes to think about the importance of a charity such as SANDs.
Sonia and I were just like any other couple expecting a healthy, kicking, crying, screaming newborn to enter into this world keeping us up all night. Dirty nappies, cranky moods, social lives to go down the pan however the reality couldn't have been more different. Our world's were shattered when the truth became known that our son wouldn't be entering this world and Baby Veer entered and left on February 21st 2011 without so much of a smile.
Now I could carry on and push emotion's to the edge but we all know that's not Baby Veer's Dad's style, our son couldn't be here to show us his personality but he has left a legacy, a legacy never to be forgotten. This half marathon is in Baby Veer's name because a charity like SANDs exists to support people who are in our position. Luckily we haven't had to rely on SANDs for anything, the love of our family and friend’s has been more than anyone could ask for. We know we are lucky but many people out there are not as lucky as us and it is for these people that this money is being raised.
SANDs core aims are to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, to work in partnership with health professionals to improve the quality of care and services offered to bereaved families and to promote research and changes in practice that could help to reduce the loss of baby’s lives. Unfortunately from those of an Indian/Pakistani descent the chances of a stillborn baby are greater and so whatever we/you can do to raise a 'taboo' topic will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully you never need to turn to SANDs and with all the research undertaken the incidences of stillbirth are reduced over the coming years (currently 17 stillbirth babies or die shortly after birth everyday in the UK).
In May of this year I started to run with a view to completing a 5km run in August however that was soon canned as I realised that I needed a bigger challenge and this is where this 13.1 mile run comes into it (21km). I wanted to do something which my son was responsible for, his Daddy was carrying a few extra tyres and I'm sure he would've wanted a trimmer Dad so my son and I went to work! So from running 1.6 miles in May to now completing 12.5 miles and 13.1 miles on October 23rd 2011 I hope to have your support in raising money for such an excellent charity.
Kindest of Regards
Kully, Sonia and Baby Veer xxx
