Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I am running the British 10k in London on 12th July 2009 in aid of OCD-UK

This may come as a surprise to some of you (not all of you!!) that I have personally suffered with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for a number of years. I have displayed OCD type traits since I was a teenager....but after the birth of my first child 10 years ago, OCD took a firm hold over me. I have been lucky to receive the correct support and treatment for OCD..and I have now pretty much overcome my personal battle against OCD, although I will continue to fight against it everyday. At the height of my OCD I was practically housebound (venturing outside meant facing too many rituals when I returned home) locked in a vicious circle of believing the fears and completing endless ritual after ritual to prevent my fears from coming true.

OCD-UK (www.ocduk.org) is the leading national charity, independently working with and for people with OCD. The charity's mission is to advance awareness of, and support those affected by, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. OCD-UK was a life saver for me..it gave me the knowledge I needed to overcome OCD, and gave me support whilst doing it. Now that I am in a much better position than I was, I want to do all I can to ensure OCD-UK continues it's mission.

What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

OCD is a serious anxiety related condition that affects as many as three in a hundred people from young children to older adults - regardless of gender and social or cultural background. OCD is characterised by the presence of recurring and unwanted, intrusive thoughts or images (obsessions) which may or may not lead the sufferer to engage in ritualistic behaviour (compulsions). Sufferers often go undiagnosed for many years, partially because of a lack of understanding of the condition, and partially because of the intense feelings of embarrassment, guilt and sometimes, even shame associated with what is often called the 'secret illness'
