On the 5 of September, three humble South African boys will embark on a 10 day long journey around the country of Sri Lanka in style; with a pimped up, kitted-out, MP3 compatible Auto Rickshaw. The journey will see them racing against several other teams in similar, yet not so cool, Rickshaws, traversing the hardened yet majestically beautiful Sri Lankan landscape to become the winners of the Lanka Challenge 2009. This will not just be a test of speed and direction, no, no! Along the way the boys will surely become men as they are required to perform physical tasks deemed common practice amongst the Sri Lankan people; tasks of endurance and mental resourcefulness. All in all, three humble boys will return from Sri Lanka forever changed, more closely bonded in friendship, and perhaps a little wiser.
Not only is this a chance for three close friends to do something each of them has never done before, but it is also a chance to raise some awareness and to try and generate some funding for those unable to partake in such a glorious adventure. SOS Africa raises money to try and further educate the underprivileged in Southern Africa, many of whom may not even be aware that a country like Sri Lanka exists. This is an opportunity to try and help give to those less fortunate, to give them a better chance of one day perhaps doing the same thing. So please, help by making a donation of any amount. It’s an old saying but a true one, a little does really go a long, long way.
As well as providing each child with a solid all-round education, SOS Africa also places a strong emphasis on the welfare and support given to each child. For 550 pounds we can sponsor a child through school for a year including uniforms, stationary and pocket money. check it out:
