On 27th March we'll be flying off to to undertake The Husky Trail Challenge. Over the following 7 days, along with 16 other intrepid mushers, we will each drive a team of spirited huskies 250km across the mountain ranges, ice valleys and forests of Norway and Sweden, deep inside the arctic circle, leaving civilisation far behind, finally finishing at the famous Ice Hotel in Jukarssarvi. This will be a truly physical and mental challenge which will require us to be totally self sufficient whilst out in the wilderness. Think Ray Mears, only without the skill, wisdom and experience! The days will be long, whilst evenings will be spent camping out in temperatures that have been known to fall to -36c, all the while feeding, cleaning up and generally tending to the huskies. Hopefully underneath the lucid glow of the Aurora Borealis.

In the process we’re hoping to raise £6,000 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

As you will no doubt be aware, one in three of us will get cancer at some time during our lives.  Effective treatment is a major priority for the NHS but it is expensive. There is very little left over for the non-essential items that often make all the difference to patients during their treatment.

This is where the Rosemere Cancer Foundation http://www.rosemere.org.uk/ comes in. As a registered charity (registered charity number 1051194), Rosemere aims to raise £560,000 in 2010/11 for research, patient welfare projects, additional equipment and training  -  not just in the Cancer Centre in Preston, but in the local Cancer Units throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria as well, providing the very best care possible for patients wherever they are treated.

Every year Rosemere partner with Global Adventure Challenges http://www.globaladventurechallenges.com/ to raise much needed funds by recruiting individuals to take on extraordinary challenges, treks and adventures.

This year we decided that it’ll be us!
