Why your donation matters

The LATA Foundation supports the Sonrisa dental clinics in Buenos Aires which provided over 30,000 free treatments to more than 5,000 disadvantaged children in 2011.

In February 15 year old Marco arrived at Sonrisa with his 14 year old sister Paola. Both suffered from serious, painful tooth decay. It was the first time that either had visited a dentist. Marco and Paola each returned 15 times and have undergone hours and hours of dental restoration work. Neither missed a single appointment.

Paola now wants to be a dentist when she grows up because “seeing what we did for her makes her want to learn and do it for others”.

£20 will pay for 30 treatments giving 5 children six appointments each.

Case study: donations in action

Natural Cosmetics in Guatemala: Maria Benita’s Lip Balm The LATA Foundation has provided start-up equipment to produce a range of natural products, including soaps, shampoos, face and hand creams. Equipment included a 20 ton oil press, vacuum distillers & mixers.

Maria Benita makes a lip balm using beeswax and macadamia oil. The production process is supporting the Gonzalez family in beekeeping, a number of farmers in the production of macadamia nuts and the Pinzon family in processing the nuts to extract macadamia oil using equipment provided by the LATA Foundation.

Maria has sold over 3500 units to date. She is now funding her own way through college (English and Sustainable Development). She has also been able to install a proper shower and lavatory with running water in the family home.

We are appealing for £1430 for product development and to purchase a steam distiller (to extract essential oils from flower petals to give the cosmetic their scent). Please help.
