Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
On 28th September 2008, I ran 26.2 miles in the Berlin marathon...
in aid of The Young Persons Unit at the University Hospital Birmingham. It took me 4 hours 40 minutes, big thanks to all those that supported me and gave sponsorship to my cause!
The Young Persons Unit (YPU) -is a purpose built 8-bedded unit in the Cancer Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It caters for patients aged 16 - 24 with a variety of cancers, with the most common tumours being bone, soft tissue, testicular and ovarian cancers. The main ethos of the unit is to provide an age-specific environment for these young people as they tend to fall into the gap of neither being appropriate to be on children nor adult wards. It gives patients an opportunity to receive treatment with others who have had similar experiences and support each other. There are also a number of special facilities on the unit with TVs, games units and study areas to create an environment in which they can relax and socialise as well as receive treatment.
A member of my family is currently being cared for at this facility, therefore this cause is especially close to my heart.
Many thanks for your kind donation,
Laura x
