My story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

With the challenge complete, we are overwhelmed by the generosity of the donations. Aware that there are a lot of offline donations currently being collected, we have increased the target to £12,000 and contacted The Charity to discuss additional equipment requirements they may have.

If you would like to follow our progress along the route, you can read a daily update which we will publish on the web site http://WWW.LAURELBROWN.ORG

Three friends and I are planning a charity Land ’s End to John O’Groats cycle ride in memory of my 12-year old daughter Laurel who died of SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) last October. Laurel suffered from severe complex epilepsy for 9 years and had been both a regular in-patient at Manchester's Booth Hall Children's Hospital and an out-patient throughout those years.

We will start our bike ride on the 20 April and expect to take 10 days. Our objective is to raise enough money to purchase a portable 24-hour EEG monitor for the EEG department.

The purchase of an EEG monitor in memory of Laurel seems particularly fitting. She loved having an EEG recording, and at one point had the record for the number of EEGs taken at Booth Hall.

The monitor will help in the early diagnosis of children with difficult/complex epilepsy without the need to hospitalise the children during the recording which typically requires 24 hours.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Central Manchester & Manchester Children's University Hospitals Charity will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
