Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. During March, April and May 2007, 25 ordinary people undertook a series of endurance events in a bid to raise over £50,000 for the Lavender Trust in memory of my fiancée Katherine Guest. Details can be found here: http://www.justgiving.com/lavenderchallenge. Thanks to the hard work and determination of everyone involved we managed to raise around £20,000 for the Trust. Yes, this was less than we had hoped, but it is still a huge amount and we are all so grateful for all the help, support and donations that we received. Money is still slowly trickling in, so we'll have an exact figure soon. .
This year, Warren and I will be undertaking a few more events to get us little closer to our original target: we will be running 10 Half Marathons between 9th February and 31st December. .
One of the problems we encountered last year was the high expense of undertaking all the challenges – expenses that we would have preferred to donate to the Lavender Trust. .
So, this year, we’re cutting down on the cost as much as we can.
As such, we will be undertaking just two organised runs: Firstly, the Brands Hatch Half Marathon on 9th February, followed by the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon on 10th March (The total cost of participating is £60 plus fuel expenses for both of us). The following 8 Half Marathons will be undertaken at locations suggested by you. .
This is how it works: .
When you make a donation you can suggest a location – within the UK – for us to run the 13.1 miles. Warren and I will then decide whether or not to accept it (this will depend largely on the terrain). .
However, if you have a sadistic side, you can undertake one of the following: .
For a donation of £100, you can have one suggestion, and Warren and I will have to run the course you suggest, unless we cancel out your bid with a donation of £100 ourselves. .
For a donation of £250, you have the choice of where we run, and the time of year. You can even suggest a costume. (Please be gentle!) -
The only restrictions we have are as follows: -
1) We can't run in town centres due to the fact that we'll probably get run over or we'll have trouble completing the 13.1 miles if there are too many people in the way. - 2) We really want to keep the costs to a minimum, so we'd rather not travel huge distances to get to the locations. - 3) We would like to take suggestions on costumes, but we'll have to reserve the right to decline due to weight, comfort and chafing issues.
Pictures from all our runs will be posted on Warren’s Facebook group here: (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=10352739111), and the list of completed runs will be announced here: 1) Brands Hatch HalfMarathon 9th February - Completed (Completed with Ed Cullen) 2) Silverstone HalfMarathon 10th March - Completed (Completed with Kristian Bentham) 3) Snowdonia Half Marathon 5th April - Completed 4) Ashdown Forest Half Marathon 28th June - Completed 5) ? 6) ? 7) ? 8) ? 9) ? 10) ? This Justgiving page will also be used to collect funds for the Lavender Trust by Jack Wainhouse, who will be undertaking the Three Peaks. Jack was unable to participate in this event last year, so like the madman he is, he's vowed to complete it in 2008. Thanks Jack. The Lavender Trust is part of Breast Cancer Care. The charity raises money specifically to fund information and support for younger women with breast cancer. It is the only fund in the dedicated to addressing the particular needs of this age group. Each March the Lavender Trust runs Lavender Week to raise awareness of issues facing younger women with breast cancer and to raise extra money to fund Breast Cancer Care's services for younger women. If you would like to sponsor us, please ensure that you type in details of your suggestion in the Remarks section – and follow it up with any specific instructions to:charles_ac_russell@hotmail.com
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: The Lavender Trust will receive your money electronically and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
Many thanks for all your help and support – and please don’t be too cruel! Charlie Russell
