Combat Stress
Founded in 1919, the Society is the only charity specialising in the treatment of service-related mental illness. Their Mission is to provide effective clinical treatment and welfare support to veterans of the British Armed Forces and Merchant Navy who suffer from mental health problems attributable in whole or part to their service, in order to enable them to maximise their mental, physical and social capabilities.
Intervention is based on the assessed psychological, social and welfare needs of the individual. Clinical interventions range from brief therapy to chronic disease management. A multidisciplinary, holistic approach is taken with the aim of helping Veterans to maximise their mental, physical and social capabilities through short-term residential clinical treatment, respite care and welfare support services in the community.
On discharge Servicemen and women and particularly those returning from active service will require considerable support in their quest to adjust to life outside of the military, particularly where they have been traumatised in the course of their service. The Society continues to receive calls from many Veterans who were discharged long before the current deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The main charity raising event for 2009:
LCC is riding from Lands End to John O’Groats in June 2009. A team of LCC riders will each complete the 1,050 miles. This will be completed over 8 days, averaging 131 miles a day. Each rider will also elect a charity of their choice for money raised. The riders are funding all the costs themselves so that all money raised goes to charity.
Please support us by giving today.
