After 5 years of applying through the ballot, I have finally managed to get a place in the London Marathon for 2009. The race itself is on Sunday 26th April & I have been training for what seems like an eternity now. I have completed my longest training runs to date of 21.1 miles, the last 2 Sundays (29th March & 5th April) in a time of 3 hours each time.
The picture to the left was taken on one of my training runs and is what I will be wearing on the day. My Sheffield Wednesday shorts and my Alzheimers Society running vest. Should you be watching on telly or from the road side and want to keep an eye out for me, my race number is 7657.
I have decided to run for the Alzheimers Society, a charity I chose due to family reasons. Dementia is one of the main causes of disability in later life, ahead of cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke. 1 in 3 people over 65 will die with dementia and it is caused by diseases of the brain that rob people of their lives.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimers Society gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Many thanks for your support, it really is appreciated & it will spur me on through the latter part of the race, knowing I have your support.
