We provide practical & emotional support to children fighting cancer in Yorkshire

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have run the Great North Run a few times in the past few years, but never did I think that I would one day be running it for my own son.

This year has been the toughest and most terrifying of my life.  Back in February my son George was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (a rare form of childhood cancer).  Our whole world was turned upside down when we were told the news and since then we have been in a little bubble of our own, oblivious to anything else except getting George better.

I can't put into words how terrible it is to watch your own son go through all the tests initially to find out what you're dealing with and what you're up against.  Then having to tell people that actually... your son has got cancer...It is truely devastating.

Then to go onto treatment and seeing your child suffer with all the chemotherapy and side effects that go with that.  It has been tough.

But to see George fight it with such force and bravery whilst charming the pants off the hospital staff has been awe-inspiring!  He is a little hero and it is for him that I am running.

Candlelighters are the charity that have directly had an impact on our lives this year.  From playworkers, staff on the ward, facililties for parents, holidays for families and more, this charity funds many things that make life more bearable for us families that are going through treatment with children suffering from cancer.

I am aiming to raise £1000, as the ward has recently moved over to LGI from Jimmys.  George loves it on the new ward, but i know there are still many things on the ward that need funding.  Not only that but Candlelighters aim to find a cure for children's cancer- after going through the year we've had so far we really hope that this will be possible.  So, please please please dig deep into your pockets and donate whatever you can afford.  It is such a worthy charity.  Seeing all those brave children on the ward makes you realise how precious life is.  No-one should have to suffer from this illness, especially children.

I will be running with my two brothers and dad.  With each of us aiming to raise £1000, we hope to make a valuable contribution to this charity.
