PLEASE HELP US RAISE MONEY TO HELP NEWBORN BABIES
A group of nurses and doctors calling themselves ‘the Leicester Neonatal Cycle Team’ are aiming to raise £10,000 to buy a new cooling machine used to treat babies starved of oxygen at birth. It has been shown in recent years that by cooling babies’ temperatures down to 33.5C in the early days we can help prevent damage to the brain and thus improve the chances of these children having normal healthy lives.
In Leicester we have recently moved into a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and we provide care for all sick babies around the region. We are one of only three centres in the East Midlands currently offering cooling treatment to this very sick group of babies and we are in need of a new machine to help care for as many of these babies as possible.
On Saturday 4 June we will be taking part in a sponsored cycle ride from Leicester Clock Tower to Skegness Clock Tower.
We know times are hard at present and budgets stretched, but this cause is very important. Please support us in any way you can. Did you know nationally 1 in 10 newborn babies need to be admitted to a neonatal unit for medical and nursing care every year? Here in Leicester we look after a thousand babies every year. The cooling system we need will make a big difference to the care we can offer.
Thank you very much for your support
