Caterham School is supporting the development of a primary school in the foot hills of Mt Kilimanjaro. Each year we travel to Tanzania with a group of 18 sixth form students to help improve the school, train the teachers and to teach lessons. Money is raised by all of the students at Caterham School and funds raised go towards different building and educational projects. Three years ago we raised money for new teacher accommodation, and since its completion 2 new members of staff have joined the school. Two years ago we began to raise money for a new kitchen, food store and toilet block. These are now operational and have been commended by the World Food Programme, for the improvements in hygiene and fuel efficiency. We have also improved the water supply.We are planning to improve the solar power and IT provision, and the resources that are available to the students.
