The Glasgow women's 10k is exactly 29 weeks after I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Eilidh Janice Banks. Just after being delivered Eilidh had trouble breathing and had to be treated in the Special Baby Care Unit at the Southern General.
We were lucky to be surrounded by experienced doctors and midwives that were able to act quickly to help us but others are not so lucky. I sometimes wonder what would have happened we lived in a developing country. Each year 4 million babies die before their first birthday worldwide and in Africa 1 in 26 women die in childbirth. In some areas that rises to 1 in 8.
That's why I've decided to raise money for Childhealth Advocacy International which works towards reducing those statistics by training maternal health care professionals in developing countries and getting the right equipment and supplies where it's needed most.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Childhealth Advocacy International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
