Story
In the time it takes to read this page - 2 people in the UK may have suffered a heart attack.
The UK has one of the worst heart attack rates in the world and it is estimated that someone in our country has a heart attack every two minutes. In the event of a sudden heart attack the patient has a 50% better chance of survival if a defibrillator is used within 2-3 minutes - with every minute that passes the chance of survival is reduced.
At St John Ambulance Lancashire we have members who are trained in the use of a defibrillator, a small machine designed to 'shock' the heart back into action. In 2005 however, guidelines regarding defibrillators changed and some of our existing machines are now out of date and we desperately need to replace them. These vital machines cost money though, so.....
On Saturday 1st November I flung myself out of a perfectly good aircraft and took the quick way down - it was an absolutely amazing experience and certainly blew away the cobwebs!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: St John Ambulance gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
These machines could save a life so please dig deep!
