Scottish Sports Futures – Shell Twilight Basketball Cycle for Children in Need

Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) is a Glasgow based charity which delivers “Education through Sport” programmes to disadvantaged young people across Scotland.  SSF has been supported by Children in Need for several years now and this is our way of thanking them for their support to date and their on-going support in the future.

Scottish Sports Futures targets those young people most at risk where and when they are most at risk focusing on neighbourhoods’ which suffer from acute youth disorder and anti social behaviour. Initiatives are designed to encourage integration, self-efficacy, healthy lifestyles and good citizenship. These issues are tackled in a relaxed and informal environment.

SSF benefits from a unique partnership with the Glasgow Rocks professional basketball team, allowing access to professional role models who participate fully in all initiatives. Local and national consultation alongside strong working relationships with partners ensures that community needs are met.

Between the 17 and 23 August this year the staff at SSF will complete a 350 mile cycle from our northern most location in Dingwall to our base in Glasgow via Shell Twilight Basketball sessions in Aberdeen, Dunfermline and Stirling. At present we have 5 members staff completing the cycle, and hope with to have a number of friends joining the team at various stages.
