Life support systems help save childrens lives. They enable patients to survive while their body is recovering from critical illness or injury. On average over 20,500 children need life support every year in the . There are four main types of life support machines which sustain the bodies vital organs, including specialist ventilators which help patients breathe when they are unable to breathe on their own, live saving dialysis machines for children suffering acute renal (kidney) failure and life save cardiothrasic equipment to sustain the patients heart beat. Life support systems can also be used to promote patient comfort, aid recovery from surgery and help prolong lifeTogether we can make a real difference.
