On Sunday 4th October Northamptonshire County Council's Communications and Marketing Team is officially going on the run!
We're doing The Run - Northampton to raise money for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF), a worthy charity who are really making a difference to children suffering from liver disease.
Sarah's daughter Lily was born with the rare and incurable liver disease, biliary atresia. Since Lily was diagnosed, CLDF have provided a huge amount of support to Sarah and her family - from dealing with the shock of finding out Lily was so poorly, to providing thorough information to support Lily when she starts school this year. They are in touch with the family regularly and are always at the end of the phone when they need advice, information or simply a listening ear.
Lily is doing really well. The first year was hard as she was very poorly, but now you really wouldn't know there was anything wrong with her unless she showed you the big scar on her tummy from when she had a life saving operation when she was just seven weeks old. She tells people it's a shark bite if they ask! Lily takes a variety of medication everyday to help her liver do it's job but that doesn't bother her at all, she's a very strong little girl.
So, the Communications and Marketing Team are stepping out as The Lily Livers and will be running....yes running.....well ok, running and walking 5km to raise as much money as they can for CLDF. Julia is doing the 10km run, she's very keen and clearly more ambitious than the rest of us ;-)
Training is going well - we're all so competitive that a sporting event such as this is bringing out the best in us!
Here's the important bit:
- £5 means a CLDF Family Support Officer can spend one hour with a family
- £10 will pay for 30 minutes of telephone and online family support
- £75 means CLDF can support a bereaved family for one year
- £300 means CLDF can maintain it's special memory book
- £500 will pay for a Family Support Officer hospital clinic visit
- £1000 will pay for CLDF's bereavement literature for one year
- £1500 will help fund a research project and help save lives
- £2000 means CLDF can supply hospitals with vital information packs or will fund a regional information evening
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Sarah and her family couldn't have asked for better support since they came into contact with CLDF. They have helped them understand and come to terms with things they never dreamed they would have to deal with. So please dig deep and donate now!
Thank you so much for your support.
The Lily Livers
