Story

16 September 2012: Great North Run 2012 - done!

What an incredible day. The atmosphere was electric and everybody who made the event, organisers and people on the street, deserve a pat on the back.

At the beginning, wearing my NDCS colours, I stood there taking in the moment and the enormity of the next 13.1 miles ahead, but more importantly the future of my son Jack. This is why I have done my fundraising .... for Jack. He is my world, along with my wife, Ruth, and Adam.

Whilst trying to keep myself composed I thought of nothing but the journey we as a family have had in the last year. From the moment of joy when I was handed Jack in the delivery room to that life-changing day of being told he had been born deaf. Trying to understand why this had happened to us. Sheer devastation hit us and the family like never before. As we were coming to terms with it, it was even harder to explain it to the family. We needed guidance and help and with a timely helping hand from the NDCS we began our journey, coming to terms with Jack's deafness.

Since then it has been nothing but positivity from all family and friends.

I hope that my fundraising helps Jack in the future, but also other parents in our situation. NDCS provide help and vital information  to people affected by deafness.

Thank you NDCS!

26th August 2012 : Great North Bike Ride 2012 - done!!

60 miles done in 5 hours 12 minutes. All done in the sun, coasting down the beautiful coastline of Northumberland from Seahouses to Tynemouth Priory. A big thank you to all who have supported me and an even bigger thank you to all who have sponsored me.

Next up is  ... the Great North Run 2012 on Sunday September 16 2012. I will run the 13.1 miles proudly wearing my NDCS running vest and I hope this gets shown on the BBC to raise awareness of this wonderful charity.

THANK YOU !!!!

A massive heart felt thank you goes out to one and all who have donated to this great cause, the NDCS.

Thank you!!!!!!

On the 24th August 2011, I was told the devastating news that my baby boy Jack was born profoundly deaf.  He was only 23 days old.

My world completely fell apart.

He can't hear my voice, he can't hear music, he can't hear the birds sing.  Every little thing that we take for granted.  It breaks my heart.

However, if it wasn't for the help and support of the National Deaf Children's Society I don't know how I would have begun to cope.  They have helped me and my family deal with Jack's deafness, providing advice and support.

This charity is very dear to my heart and I can't begin to imagine what I would do without it.  Please give all you can to help this invaluable support continue for deaf children and their families.
