Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Poems and songs help prompt people's stories and memories. They're a wonderful way to join in a conversation, when it's sometimes confusing or tiring to remember much at all. Living Voices helps us take stories, poems and songs to 18 residential care homes across Aberdeen, South Ayrshire and Perth and Kinross. The project pays for a professional poet, storyteller or musician to visit each home monthly, for relaxed and chatty sessions. A volunteer works with the session facilitator to help ensure that everybody in the group gets a chance to take part. And it's co-ordinated from the Scottish Poetry Library and the Scottish Storytelling Centre, with funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the Baring Foundation and Creative Scotland.
We're raising further funds to help us offer further training for our volunteers and our professional storytellers, poets and musicians. We want to support them in the skills and care they put into this work, so that in turn they can support carehome residents in the different things they may want to get from each session. You can help us create training and support for volunteers and facilitators on a range of topics, including how to support carehome residents if they want to write their own stories, poems and songs, and how to work with reminiscence.
