UPDATED AGAIN: LE MANS 24 HOUR ROLLERSKATE CHALLENGE!

Yes after brighton I am doing it again......what can i say I just like pain! LOL!!!

Note from Moz:

Hi everyone,

As many of you know a lot of us are travelling to Le Mans this weekend

Now I know many off you probably already sponsored Saffy and co for doing the London to Brighton event (hurrah!! I'll post a link in a mo') but...if you didn't or are at all impressed we are doing the crazy le man 24hr race this weeekend then saffs just giving site is still open

So...open your hearts and yor wallets if you hadn't already and sponsor team guinness and everyone else doing le Mans for Macmillan Cancer nurses, these people will touch nearly everyone at some point in their lives...they are amazing and give support not only to cancer sufferers but to their friends and family.  This is also something very close to a lot of skaters hearts, for those that all miss Melvin.

Yes I am begging LOL-but its for a very good cause, macmillan desreve it and well, le mans is stupidly hard work!

Thanks all..even 5p counts!

Here's the link:

Dear All,

Firstly apologies for the mass email but it is for a very good cause

As some of you know I do crazy Rollerskating things, often for charity.

Recently some friends skated from London to Brighton (wow-59 miles!) for Macmillan Cancer Nurses and I was unable to join them but this is a very worthy charity so this weekend myself and some other equally crazy people on Skates are going to compete in a 24hour rollerskating race in France at Le Mans.  If any of you are into motorsports-yes it’s the same as the car race, at the same place, we skate in a team of ten over the 24 hrs, each individually completing 50+ miles.  I’m organising two teams to go over, in total we have 8 UK teams and its all for a good cause (600 teams participate)

Its tough, but it is worth it!

So if anyone would like to sponsor me and my friends for our crazy need to skate so far without sleep there is a website set up by my friends that did the London-Brighton skate and I’d be so happy even for the smallest of donations, or even just to wish me luck!-Macmillan touch many of us at some point in our lives.

The website is here:

http://www.justgiving.com/londontobrightonskate

And for those that know me, I’ll be the one limping and looking tired on next wed skate

Thanks everyone,

GuinnessGirl  :)

UPDATED: I made it......and my god do i hurt now!!!

We set of from Clapham at 6:20am and finally made it to Brighton at 3:55pm.....euphoric and broken!

We had to have a very long break at half time 28 miles in due to the weather conditions making the roads unskateable.....however the sun was on our side and came out again drying up the roads so we could carry on and make it to the end.

Actual skating time took us just under 8 hours

.....and the dreaded Ditchling Beacon defies description.....I challenge any of you to walk up it let alone skate up it!!!

An amazing challenge and an amazing day.

And now you know I have done it you can still sponsor me here til august.

Many thanks for your support.

This year I am planning to skate the 60 miles from London to Brighton this year in memory of my friend Melvin who we sadly lost to cancer last year.

Those of you who are visiting this page that knew him will all know that Melv was an absolute sweetheart, one of the nicest kindest and gentlest people I've ever known. He was an amazingly talented and inspirational quad skater and until recently he was a permanent fixture every thursday at rollerdisco and always frequently impressing us with his dance moves at the beach in hyde park and trafalgar square.
Skating was his whole life and I know his skate friends meant a great deal to him.
He is one of the very first people I met on the skate scene and is one of the main the reasons I carried on skating and I know he was a good mate to many of the faces on the London skate scene.

Therefore as a tribute to Melvin I am planning to skate the 60 miles from London to Brighton on sunday 17th June this year to raise money not only to help his family be able to get closer to affording a headstone for his grave (see http://www.serpentineroad.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25133&sid=3d4d5c02a3fb1ea404328f54bb055f80 for further details) but also to help a charity which directly helps the victims and the families of all those that are affected by this disease.

Ive therefore chosen Macmillan Cancer support as I wanted to do something to help not only those who suffer from cancer but those who are affected by it and give something back to the the amazing people who work hard to support families affected by cancer every day.

The route is approximately 60 miles long and very hilly in parts.......for the person who famously hates hills this is going to be "interesting"......im certainly looking forward to ditchling beacon which I am told makes putney hill look like a mole hill and which the cyclists get off to push their bike up.

Its certainly going to be a challenge.....which I hope I make it to the end of still standing!

So please dig deep and sponsor me now, whatever you can spare however large or small will help me to help me raise money for this good cause and make a difference.

Many thanks for your support.

Saffy.....(my legs are cursing me already)

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
