The Dartmoor Challenge

Hello Everyone, thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

So as you all know I don’t usually get out of bed for anything under 10km, and even though this challenge really is kinda like a wee jaunt in the park with a wee camp fire thrown in for fun, the big challenge for me is that it is a survival navigation extravaganza across Dartmoor!  I mean, have you seen the place in the heart of Devon? Ok so it’s not quite to the level of the Tongariro National park back in NZ, navigating your way across the spectacular plateau of Mount Ruapehu, Tongariro or Ngauruhoe, or is it anything as big and beautiful and dangerous as the Kruger National Park in SA. 

But it is a moorland, a vast 953km2 of undulating terrain full of tors, rivers, 5ft bogs, possibly tigers and cheetahs and apparently pixies, headless horsemen, a pack of spectral hounds and a big black dog!  That’s enough to freak even the most toughest tough guys out!

And because I really  want to give something back to the children and young people, to those that have not been as fortunate as you or I in developing skills and experiencing what we did when we were young.  Those that have come from disadvantaged backgrounds, local authority care, refugees, young offenders, and special needs.

I would like to raise money for my charity,  the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards scheme – who aim to develop the skills and attitudes of the young people, and to give them the experiences that will have a lasting impact on their lives and futures.
