Well I'm back all limbs accounted for and in the right places, lots of stories to tell
(and a fair few bruises aches and pains to show for them)!!
The canoe trip was challenging, especially some of the wildlife encounters, but an amazing experience in itself!
Whilst there, I taught some basic first aid to parents and those that worked on the farm in the community. When I arrived at the projects, when speaking with the volunteers out there, it was apparent this was a subject much needed, with many wounds and burns (especially on children from hot cooking pots) going untended. A small piece of knowledge to share that can make such a difference, especially with how fast infection can take hold in such living conditions.
I have committed to send out some first aid books, instructional posters for the health centre (treatment of burns and wounds) and a box of basic bandages etc. If you have any spare, please do let me know.
The money raised so far has gone to Anna's Room to help buy sensory room equipment for Southampton Hospital (currently £800, £200 TO GO!!!) and a donation to African Revival (£500) towards desks for the new school that we started building (from scratch - oh how I wished for a B&Q when digging the sand from the ground to make cement).
I just want to say a huge thank you to those of you that have sponsored me so far. I feel truly humbled and inspired by some of the people that I met on this trip and a lot more educated about foreign aid, helping communities to help themselves, rather than pure cash injection. Although my time over there was short, I know that the contribution made whilst there and the money raised by doing the canoe challenge for the UK charity is very much valued.
For those of you that have pledged to sponsor but not yet got round to it please do!!
