Community Projects Africa is a registered UK charity set up in 2003 to provide support for impoverished people living in south and east Africa, predominantly Tanzania.

Working with village elders and councils, we support community projects that provide schooling, vocational training, sanitation and safe water supplies. Integral to our mission and projects is the education of such communities on HIV Aids and assistance for families affected, as well as the promotion of environmentally friendly activities and conservation.

We raise funds through donations and fund-raising events and pride ourselves on not wasting money on unnecessary administration - your donations go directly towards the project you want to support.

CPA is currently running four active projects, all of which need your help to remain operational. At our vocational training centre, we have built the classrooms and health post and now desperately need funds to employ local teachers and start running our skills courses, including English language and tailoring, for vulnerable Maasai women.

My story

Not 26 miles admittedly, but my own personal Marathon involving an arduous climb, serious blisters, altitude sickness and freezing cold nights, followed by a week of manual labour in sauna-like humidity resulting in backache, sweat, sunburn and more blisters in different places!

In August I will be heading to Tanzania with a small group of friends for a dual challenge. During the first week we will be climbing Mt Meru in Arusha National Park - at 15,000ft the 4th highest mountain in Africa. The second week we will be helping build a primary school in the remote village of Choba on the Tanzanian coast.

Last year another group completed a nursery school in the village which now boasts 53 very proud little 3-6 year olds (see image). They now desperately need a primary school for the children to move up to, and we will be working alongside the experts from Community Projects Africa and the local builders and craftsmen to help with the physical build with the aim of completing a classroom and toilets.

Fitness training underway; hard hat, steel toe cap boots, dust masks and builders gloves are packed, and climbing boots are being broken in on the streets of Hove. All I now need is some serious encouragement, so any contributions (however small) would be very gratefully received. I am funding the cost of the trip myself, so all donations will go directly to the charity.
