An intrepid team of 14 colleagues from Elementis (+3 other family members), took part in the Lyke Wake Walk over the last weekend.
After meeting at 9:00pm at the company offices, we slowly made our way in the rain to Ravenscar to the start point.
After getting kitted up, the walk commenced at around 11:30pm, Saturday 27th June 2009.Walking through the night, the rain and the mud, across moor, bog land, up and down countless hills and endless disused railway lines!
We reached our destination around 6:15pm, Sunday 28th June 2009, some 42 miles away and almost 19 hours later... (subject to interpretation as we managed a few minor detours along the way! (The crossing took around 15hours with breaks).
We were welcomed at the end by a small group of family and friends, a sight for sore eyes and sore feet!
After completion of the last person (a very small gap of around 10 minutes between the first and last person) we had a few small presentations and so on to the pub for a much needed sit down and a pint!
The team gratefully acknowledge the fabulous support provided by Bob Armstrong and Dave Hardy... a wonderful cup of tea and first aid at every stop - THANKS GUYS!!!
We also acknowledge all of the personal effort and encouragement provided by Steve Ferens (and his trusty sidekick Lucky), without Steve we would probably be still wandering around the hills (felt like mountains...) in the rain trying to get home!!
On a personal note, I would like to thank all of my friends for pledging their support for this event. Not to mention all of my colleagues from the walking team, a great group of people all working together during the walk and on the training events.
We all "walk away" with a sense of pride and a sense of achievement, its safe to say we all have a few more friends today.
I have also posted the photographs on Facebook for those of you who use it. The following is a public link, which you can use from home (won't work on your work PC) to see the photographs --
