The Lymphoma Association Rugby Team - The Periwinkles - will be playing Hitchin RFC for the Robin Thorpe Memorial Trophy on Saturday 8th May.
Since the first match in 2003, The Periwinkles and their supporters, brilliantly assisted by the players, committee and members of Hitchin RFC, have raised over £30,000 for the Lymphoma Association. The matches are played with a great sprit and dedication to the cause and The Periwinkles are the current holders of the trophy. As well as a fundraiser for the charity, the day is also a terrific social occasion, made all the more enjoyable by Hitchin RFC's great bar and clubhouse.
As well as winning the Overton International Festival in 2007, The Periwinkles have also appeared on television when Claire was given a fashion makeover by some lovely ladies at the BBC.
A few key members of the Periwinkles:
Karl Thorpe, Periwinkles club captain (The man behind the formation of the Periwinkles)
Peter Tasko, Hitchin RFC chairman (Mr Greedy does hold exceedingly long raffles)
Carolyn Dow, team nurse (Tasked with trying to keep our creaking bodies together)
Claire Donovan, fashion advisor and tactical guru (Bernard knows What Not To Wear!)
New playing members and supporters always welcome!!! Find out a bit more about us here - http://www.lymphomarugby.com/
The Periwinkles would like to thank all their family and friends as well as everyone at Hitchin RFC for making this event an ongoing success, both on and off the pitch.
